Whilst working on our treatment we began discussing details in our Short which we have seen before in other exhisting products. These being, "Groundhog Day" and "Lord of the Rings". Both being feature films, majority of the content was redundant but the short scenes that appeared in my mind whilst working on the treatment bore a striking resemblance to our concept which is named "The Passion of a Bleeding Rose".
Groundhog Day
"Groundhog Day" for those who have not seen it tells the story of an obnoxious news reporter. Whilst he is filming a news report about a small tradition in a town where a Groundhog is believed to tell the townsfolk if the end of winter is coming he begins to experience the same day over and over.
The specific point that came to mind when writing our treatment was the use of the alarm clock each time the day began. At one point it is even seen in a high angled slow motion shot, adding a lot of emphasis on the tiles falling and the time passing. The one difference between this and our concept is that whilst Groundhog Day makes use of repeat appearances of the clock, we will only be using this effect once, showing our main character reliving the day once over.
Lord of the Rings
You will most likely be asking, how does this fantasy feature connect to our Short concept?
Well the answer is quite simple, the red liquid running from the man's lips. During the first day Rose dies whilst clutching a rose in her hands tightly with a trickle of blood running down the stem and then falling to the floor. This image is what came to mind. We show a shot in ordinary time of Chris (Altered from Jamie) at work, typing away on his computer whilst cutting back now and again to a series of slow motion shots of Rose (Now Chris' Mum) gripping the rose tight enough that blood begins to fall from the stem. Just as she begins to collapse i can then imagine a swift cut back to Chris staring into blank space at work. All of this combined with some soft, slow music to add to the atmosphere.
